Congratulations to the faculty, trainees, and graduate student who received awards and grant funding.

 Barbara Alexander 2024

Dr. Barbara Alexander, professor, received the 2023 UMMC Meritorious Research Service Award for Faculty in December at Research Day.


 Breland CrudupBreland Crudup, PhD student, received from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute a $95,082 award for the project titled "Cross Sex Therapy and Cardiovascular Risk in the Transgender Female."

He was also the recipient of a Graduate Student Poster Presentation award at the UMMC School of Graudate Studies in the Health Sciences Annual Research Day in October.  Breland received a Hypertension Council Award for Underrepresented Minorities to attend the American Heart Association Hypertiension Scientific Sessions.

 Dr. John Clemmer, assistant professor, received the Silver Medallion-$500,000 award.  This award honors investigators most successful at securing extramurally funded original research during their careers at UMMC.  The award is determined by the level of funding accrued throughout his career at UMMC.


Michael Hall 2018

Dr. Michael Hall, Chair and professor of the Department of Medicine, professor of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, has been named the 2024 Southeastern Conference Faculty Achievement Award recipient for the University of Mississippi. 


Ji Li 2023

 Dr. Ji Li, professor, received from Virginia Commonwealth University and NIH a $248,353 award for the project, "Metformin Therapy for Ischemic Insult and Reperfusion Injury in Aging." He also received a $775,000 award from NIH for the project, "MIF and Cardiovascular Inflammation."


Alexia Jordan Mallette 2021

 

Jordan Mallette, PhD student, is the SGSHS Graduate Student Body Philanthropy Coordinator for 2023-2024.


Alan Mouton 2019

 Dr. Alan Mouton, assistant professor, received from the NIH a $2,993,965 award for the project, "Anti-inflammatory roles and macrophage metabolism of lactate and ketones during myocardial infarction."  


Madison Newberry

 

Madison Newberry, PhD student, is the SGSHS Graduate Student Body President for 2023-2024.


David Stec 2020

Dr. David Stec, professor, received the Platinum Medallion-$5 million award.  This award honors investigators most successful at securing extramurally funded original research during their careers at UMMC.  The award is determined by the level of funding accrued throughout his career at UMMC.

Erin Taylor 2020
Dr. Erin Taylor, assistant professor, received from the NIH a $310,000 award for the project, "Improving awareness of women with hypertension: ROAR (Rural, Obese, At Risk).
